The most problematic elements in facial masks are the perfumes, (for instance, an ingredient like Polyvinyl Acetate is a real gathering of synthetic perfumes), parabens, glycol propylenes (PG+a number) and petrochemical sulphates.
It not because it is written on the box that the mixture is nutritive, purifying, regenerating, embellishing, scaling, invigorating, hydrating and other entrancing “ante’s” that this is true or that this is done without health risks:
“Nearly 3.000 chemicals are used as ingredients of fragrance. One single product can contain tens, even hundreds of them. Many of these non-identified ingredients are irritating and can trigger allergies, migraines and symptoms of asthma. Within the framework of laboratory experiments, ingredients of fragrance taken separately were associated with undesirable, adverse effects, in particular with cancer and neurotoxicity. The synthetic musks used in perfumes constitute a serious problem for the environment. Environment Canada indexed several synthetic musks as being persistent, bio-accumulative or toxic and identified other agents to be evaluated in priority because of their possible effect on human health. One finds measurable quantities of synthetic musks in the fish of the Great Lakes. Moreover, the levels in the sediments increase. Laboratory tests mandated by the American organization Environmental Working Group have also revealed the presence of synthetic musks currents (Galaxolide and/or Tonalide) in seven new-born babies out of ten”.

|The green clay masks are impossible to circumvent in the life of a woman. I tested in Argiletz, 400 g, 13.99 $, ready for use, no certification but an honest list of ingredients: rough green clay, 53%, and water, 47%. I also bought, in order to fight the routine in Cattier , it too ready for use, 400 g, 12.99 $, with a list of ingredients a bit disconcerting, just enough to doubt about truths said to be “general” in the history of philosophy: aqua, montmorillonite, kaolin. If with “aqua” one understand thanks to the Latin courses or the voyages in the South, with the remainder one must do a little research if one does not want to remain in doubt (see the chapter “ Reading the labels ” about this product).|

| 100% Pure Canada, the brand recommended by Gillian Deacon offers several products in the masks and exfoliants at very decent prices. The facial masks are made with fruit enzymes, completely natural vitamin C and anti-oxydants. The Range 100% Pure – does not contain chemicals of synthesis, artificial perfumes, preservatives or any other toxin. It is also “Vegan” and without gluten. The lists of ingredients attest to these allegations.Super Fruits Scrub + Mask 27 $. Pineapple Enzyme Facial Peel Mask 22 $.
The most extraordinary mask that I know in terms of effectiveness is the following:
- 1 spoonful of honey tea
- 1 spoonful of oatmeal tea (always organic)
- 1 egg yolk (it also organic)
- 1 spoonful of almond oil tea
- 3 to 4 oil drops of jojoba or bourache or musky rose of Chile or, why not, all three of them!
Try this mask my ladies and you will see that there is nothing, nothing really, that beats this quite simply divine mixture!
Although a skin activated and stimulated by a mask cheers up the mind and although such a ritual should belong to your weekly maintenance, buying masks already manufactured is a useless and superfluous expenditure in my opinion. Look at the ingredients (and the prices!) that are in the selected masks: most are natural ingredients that are already in your kitchen and that are the best: vegetables, fruits, tea bags and herb teas, eggs, flours, honey, milk, yoghourt, oils. Add to this arsenal one or two clays and oils that I advised you in the chapter “ Oils, butters and other active ingredients ” and you will have ingredients to prepare your masks for a whole year! If you make organic vegetable juices or fruits do not throw the pulp away, make a mask of it! Add a little organic oatmeal if the mixture is too liquid and some drops of vegetable or essential oils and you’ll be a winner! Be careful with strawberries and other small fruits, if they are not organic, it is better to avoid them, because research attests that the virtues of these fruits are quite simply compromised by the quantity of pesticides which one uses to cultivate them and to preserve them.
The application of a mask should be done on a perfectly clean skin whose pores have already been dilated by a steam bath.
There are tons of recipes of natural masks in the books or on the Internet. I recommend to you: Cosmétiques: Le Pire et le Meilleur (Cosmetics: The worst and the best) by Chantal Clergeaud. There are several types of masks, according to various needs, it is up to you to choose one which suits you best.
